Perseverance

Last Week, Thursday, I decided to go ahead and have knee replacement surgery. There's a strange phenomenon that has begun to happen, my pain has diminished and seems to have disappeared. It's so crazy, I'm now doubting a decision that has taken me 2 years to make. It really lets me know how powerful my brain is. After watching 2 YouTube videos of knee replacement surgery, my mind and body don't want to go anywhere near that operating room. It's a brutal assault on the body…leaving scars, greatly increasing pain for a few weeks, in an effort to repair/fix a life debilitating problem.

This caused me to think how this could apply to our Spiritual lives. How many times do we finally make a strong decision to do something new for the Kingdom's sake or to change our life to move toward spiritually. It could be any thing, participating in a major prayer assault, or changing a bad habit, or beginning a new, better habit. It sounds exciting and rewarding when we've made up our mind, but then we begin to think about the sacrifice that it might take, what we might have to give up to achieve the good end and the resolve begins to wane. We can, even without realizing it, begin to resist in our mind/body/spirit. We soon forget and move back to the comfortable.

It's been several weeks now during our worship times together at FWC, that we've heard the Holy Spirit speaking to us to move out and follow after and possess what God has challenged us to do. To commit to what we know to be our calling, to begin to believe that we each have a vital place, a place to fulfill in the body. As we begin to commit to the new challenges, It may result in pain for a season. It might mean giving up something that we feel we love and don't want to give up. However, the Lord reminds us that he that has begun a good work in us, he will complete it.

I'm going to go through with my surgery, not because it's going to be be fun, but because of the powerful new end result. With these few words today, I want to be an encouragement to all of us to remember what we have heard the Lord say, and to remember our vows/commitments and keep moving forward. There may be pain/struggle/challenges for a season, but the end result will bring healing, renew spiritual strength and a brand new place in God.
