Stilettos vs: Sneakers

It was several months ago when my oldest son Nathan
ran his first marathon. It was 13 miles and he had been
training for several weeks on the greenbelt in Maryville.
I remember the joy that filled my heart as he crossed
the finish line. Afterwards, he said, "Mom, I trained on
the flat land and I wasn't prepared for the hills which
almost did me in."
I've been a Christian for most of my life and so you
could say I've been in training for my own race. Just
like my son, many times I've gotten overwhelmed by
the amount of effort it takes to climb but, just as he
did, I must remind myself that to receive your reward,
you must finish the race.
Ladies, the truth is we desire a race that can be run
in stilettos. We want to look beautiful and be
confident in our faith as if our royal lineage protects us
from all discomfort. Just as princess Diana's royal title
didn't stop her from dying an early death, our title as
God's daughters only encourages the enemy to attack.
We must encourage each other by offering a band aid
(AKA phone call, card, hug etc.) for those blisters that
bring our sisters pain.
So my band aid offering to you ladies is this:
Psalms 20:5 (The Living Bible)
"May there be shouts of joy when we hear the news of
your victory, flags flying with praise to God for all
that He has done for you. May He answer all your
Prayers."
Amen

  1. Wow. Stilettos vs. Sneakers...never thought of it in that light.

I need to graduate to the sneakers. All I ever wear (truly!) is flip-flops. In other words, I don't want to have to break a sweat. I'd rather walk the race than run it, and sometimes, I don't even want to walk. I want to be carried.

I've said this I don't know how many times but I'll say it again...God save me from apathy.

  2. Shayne, we all struggle with apathy to a point...if we tell the truth.
It was awesome. I needed that today. I am struggling myself with wanting to wear the stilettos and my job REQUIRES sneakers.

  6. Roziland,
Have you ever thought of writing a devotional book. I have enjoyed all your writings. I also own several pairs of sneakers. It seems like I have been going up hill ever since I said I Do!

    Be Blessed
