There are a couple words that when I hear my reaction is to immediately give an eye roll. I am going to focus on one of those things today….OBEDIENCE. Now this of course is not one of my strong suits in life and never has been. As a child my parents are the ones that were training me in obedience and my attitude was that I was going to do what I wanted when I wanted regardless. Now it is no longer my parents training me but my heavenly Father who is requiring me to be obedient to His will, His way, His rules, and His commands. Now that I am a parent requiring my child to be obedient I get it; obedience is really for the child’s benefit. God also had rewards for us, his children, for our obedience. Leviticus 26 is a list of rewards. In verse:
· 4 and 5, God gives us prosperity;
· 6 – 8, God gives us peace in our homes and lives;
· 9, God gives us favor;
and then verse 11 and 12 is the real reason why we should want to be obedient to God and the greatest reward of all,
vs 11 I will put my dwelling place among and I will not be abhor by you. 12 I will walk among you and be your God, and you will be my people.
What life is all about is walking, talking, and dwelling with God. So now that same old childish attitude of wanting to do what I want to do regardless is powerless and meaningless.
