Donkey!
Legend of the Donkey's Cross
" Bring me the colt of a donkey," was the Master's
request. A young donkey was brought to Jesus to
carry Him into Jerusalem. A week later Jesus was
ordered to be crucified. The little donkey so loved
the Lord that he wanted to help Him carry the cross.
But, alas, he was pushed away. The sad little donkey
waited to say goodbye until nearly all had left. As he
turned to leave, the shadow of the cross fell upon the
back and shoulders of the little donkey. And there it
has remained, a tribute to the loyalty and love of the
humblest of Gods creatures.

As I was praying about what to write about for this
week, I had one word that kept coming back to me.
Bob! You see, my father has a donkey named Bob.
Bob is also known as a Jesus donkey. After a little
research I found the legend of the donkey’s cross.
Bob doesn’t expect a lot out of life. He does like a
peppermint occasionally. But he takes his job very
seriously. He looks after his cows. As you drive
around you will see donkeys with cows, horses,
sheep, and other herds. I have had many of my
customers ask me why donkey’s are so common. I
never thought much about it till Bob. Bob (and
other donkeys) will lay their lives down for what-
ever herd they are put with. They are the shepherds
of their flock and will protect them from danger at
all cost.
I find it amazing that Jesus chose the donkey on
several different occasions throughout the Bible.
I also find it amazing that one of the most humble
creatures would be used in such an important roll
without pride or ego. We pray to be more like
Jesus and the donkey has accomplished that.
My prayer for myself and all of you is that we will
all become a little like the donkey. How about that...
what most people would consider an insult can now
be looked at as a compliment! Think about that and
smile the next time you hear someone called a donkey.
God bless,
Julie Powell
